Anwar Sadat
Egypt's Third President
Muhammad Anwar Al Sadat was the third president of Egypt. He served for eleven years before his October 6, 1981 assassination.
The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded jointly to Mohamed Anwar al-Sadat and Menachem Begin in 1978 for their unprecedented work on The Camp David accords.
Like John F. Kennedy, I think Sadat is a perfect example of what happens when a political leader strays too far from the will of those in the right leaning power base of his country. Like Kennedy, Sadat was pursuing the path to peace in a way that the more aggressive elements refused to tolerate and he died for it. It should also be understood that, like JFK, they were sending a clear message by killing Sadat, a message about power and dis-empowerment. This message is generally always sent when a leader is assassinated and when the plotters are not all brought to justice, it demonstrates that the message was understood.
