Richard Brautigan
Richard Brautigan's works are heartbreaking and hilarious
Richard Brautigan wlll make you think about things in ways you never would have otherwise .
He'll make you feel in ways you may have been afraid to feel on your own.
He'll make you laugh out loud at the insanity we all encounter in life, with characters who, however bizarre, seem just like people we've all known.
He'll cause you to sympathize so deeply that you'll know you understand why we love. Yeah, imagine that!
It's been suggested that in the end Richard's life turned out like he was one of his own tragic fictional victims of circumstance. I've always felt like - yes, FELT like - perhaps MOST of Richards characters , even those in his Gothic Western, The Hawkline Monster, WEREN'T fictional, though Richard may have made them up, and I also think Richard ALWAYS made no secret of his being one of his characters all along. This just may be the way I see it as an artist, but Richard was the kind of writer who inspires you to ask yourself questions like: can a life be a work of art? and who ISN'T a character?
If you've never read anything by Richard Brautigan, do so. Believe me; you'll be doing yourself a favor.
Three reasons to love Richard Brautigan
1.) He was funny and tragic.
2.) He could evoke sympathy and pity like nobody else.
3.) He wrote about love.
